README.1ST
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to Maxlog!
A utility to keep your MAX.LOG file trimmed down to a specific
number of days for DOS and OS/2!
Syntax: MaxLog <# of days> <Squish or Max log file name>
----------------------------------------
DUE TO MAXTOOLS SUGGESTIONS
----------------------------------------
I had originally released a package of 16 utilities for Maximus SysOps
called MaxTools. (Full MaxTools 1.03 documentation included)
MaxLog was one of those utilities. MaxTools was a great success and I
listened to ideas, complaints and suggestions.
The top 2 were as follows:
1. Let me know when you release and OS/2 version
2. $20 registration fee is to high if I just want to use only 1 or 2 utilities.
----------------------------------------
MY ANSWER TO THESE SUGGESTIONS
----------------------------------------
1. MaxLog as an experiment was re-written for OS/2 and DOS
2. The registration fee for MaxLog standalone for DOS and OS/2 is
only $1.00. If you like it, I'll consider doing more this way.
- Packing list
README.1ST - This file
MAXLOG.LZH - Maxlog executables for DOS and OS/2
MAXTOOLS.DOC - Documentation for the full MaxTools package
Within the MAXLOG.LZH file are 3 files:
MAXLOG.XT - MaxLog.EXE for XT machines under DOS
MAXLOG.AT - MaxLog.EXE for (AT machines ONLY) under DOS
MAXLOG.OS2 - MaxLog.EXE for AT machines ONLY under OS2 2.0 or greater
Just rename the appropriate file to MaxLog.EXE and type
"MaxLog" by itself for complete instructions.
- MaxTools.Doc contains documentation for ALL of the MaxTools
including MaxLog with some minor exceptions:
1. No environment variable is needed or used
2. Logging to MaxTools.Log is not supported or necessary.
3. MaxLog does not exit with error levels
NOTE: The above 3 items were omitted mainly because I felt they
were not important and allowed me to greatly speed up the
performance and lessen the final executable size.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to netmail
me or leave a message on MAXTOOLS_SUPPORT echo or MUFFIN.
